Yesterday, I had to do it.

I had to turn on the heat.

Yes, it was freezing cold here in the store.  Enough that I heard a small child- in the middle of playing- say "Mommy, my nose is cold".  Ok, ok- I get the hint.  Not too many people are aware that our "heat" is a crazy old gas powered blower that is situated directly over my head in my office.  No one knows that I fear for my life the first few times it comes on.

Flashback four years ago:  We had a lovely man from Public Utilities come in to light the pilot light.  Everything is going well- it's dusty, but that's too be expected.  He's on a small step ladder under the blower, lighting the pilot.  His face is practically IN the heater.  He says, "Okay, turn her on."  I obey and gasp in horror as the first cloud of gas ignites and takes off his eyebrows.  Never again will anyone turn on the blower without the bottom plate being closed!

So that is my fear.  I like my eyebrows a bit too much.  At least we sell some fake ones- I could always be an angry Scotsman til they grow back...

Rainy day

It's really dreary, humid and rainy today.  No fun to be outside.  But lots of fun to be in a toy store!  We've seen a lot of friends today and played with a ton of kids.  We are also expecting a visit from the Richmond Zombie Walk, but I don't know if I want to see wet zombies- I hear they get pretty stinky.

Yes we can!

Right now is an exciting time to be a voter!  You can feel it in the air.  You can hear people talking about it all around you.  I personally am super confident that change will be made.  I believe in you,  America.  Let's make it happen!  In honor of this, I offer you the Obama action figure.  Almost as amazing as the man himself.

We just got these awesome lil' guys in today!  They are a real, living plant that you can take with you anywhere you may go!  You can attach it to your keys, purse, backpack,etc.  Come check 'em out!

It's here!  The Diana Hong Meow or "panda"!  So cute!  There are pandas all over this camera.... come check it out!

Monday, Monday, Monday!

 Today was a scary day for Wall Street.  Lots of people are worried about what's going to happen to their money,  and to them.  At times like these, it's important to spend money on quality items.  One thing  I 'm liking right now is this pounding bench.  It's made of maple by a small company in Vermont.  If you call the company you actually get to speak to a real live person and they get their wood from a local mill, helping out another local business.   I'm sure you've heard it before but when you shop locally twice the amount of money stays in your community than when you shop at a "big box" store.  What can I say, it helps to keep it local.

Hello!  This is the first post from World of Mirth, an awesome independent specialty toy store in Richmond, VA.  We fill our shelves with retro inspired, hard to find and sometimes just plain different toys and gifts.  Our store has been described as the place where Pee-Wee's Playhouse meets Dr. Seuss and that couldn't make us any happier.  We welcome kids of all ages to come in and play!
